About Toogood Estate Winery

In December of 2019, the Toogood Estate Winery was purchased by the Ron and Darin Mittelstaedt family of El Dorado Hills.  Sons Bradley and Timothy will be working on-site daily along with Tim’s fiancé Kayla.  They each bring their own skill set to the day-to-day operations, along with our fine staff of employees that have served you in the past with wine knowledge and expertise. Daughter Haley will join after finishing college in Texas.  Ron and Darin can be found on-site most weekends helping in any and all operations.

Ron and Darin bring years of business experience in various industries and look forward to watching Toogood Estate Wines grow and flourish. Plans are underway for some new developments and we will continue to build on what Paul Toogood started in 2001 with his winery.

Rest assured, the talented and much loved wine maker, Marco Cappelli will stay on and continue making the wines so many love. We look forward to being a part of the Fairplay wine community!

The Toogood Estate Winery was established on a beautiful 40 acre parcel of rolling foothills purchased in May of 2001. It is one quarter mile square and offers microclimates perfect for the different varieties that were hand selected. The project of excavating the wine cave started on September 11, 2001. Nine months later, the excavation and floor were completed. In all, 5000 square feet of winery production and aging space has been created, all underground in a delicately controlled atmosphere.

The first crush of the Toogood Estate Winery was the 2002 vintage. The wine was first bottled in January of 2003 and sales and acceptance have been remarkable.

The vineyards currently have 12 acres planted with varieties including Zinfandel, Primitivo, Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petite Sirah. We invite you to come visit and say hello.

Fondly,
The Mittelstaedt Family
