Double D Port
Toogood Estate Winery is excited and proud to release a brand-new product that is near and dear to our hearts. “Double D – Pinot Noir Port” a port with a purpose. A portion of proceeds will be donated annually to Parkinson’s Research and in honor of Darin Mittelstaedt. For those that may not know, Darin Mittelstaedt, our loving mother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in December of 2018. Since the diagnosis, the Mittelstaedt Family relocated back to El Dorado Hills and began a family venture. We always knew that we wanted to support Darin in any way possible, so what better way to honor her than with a signature port made by Winemaker Marco Cappelli.
The Pinot Noir grapes, a longtime favorite of Darin’s, hail from our Estate vineyard in Fairplay, CA which is known for being the highest average elevation AVA in the country. The Double D features a gorgeous 500ML glass etched bottle with a red foil and red etched lettering to honor the red tulip which was unveiled as the global symbol of Parkinson’s Disease. You might ask ‘Why the Double D?’… Double D was a nickname that was given to Darin over the years and pays homage to her maiden name Darin Dimas. We hope that everyone enjoys the port as much as we do and thank you to everyone for your support and kindness!
Parkinson’s Disease is a neurodegenerative disease that primarily affects dopamine producing neurons in a certain part of the brain. Tremors, movement and balance difficulties, limb rigidity, and delayed muscle action are all symptoms that appear over time with each person’s reactions differing. There is no cure for this disease and additional research is a must to continue advancements in treatment and therapy. April is Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month because it is the birth month of James Parkinson. He was a London physician who published “An Essay on the Shaking Palsy” in 1817. He was the first physician to describe Parkinson’s. With the Double D Pinot Noir Port, we aim to raise awareness and to continue to support Parkinson’s Research for many years to come.
Loyally,
The Mittelstaedt Family
